ENGLISH LANGUAGE COPY EDITORS

We are seeking experienced English Language Copy Editors with a superior understanding of English grammar, experience adhering to multiple established styles, and strong communication skills to work in a freelance capacity performing copy editing services. Qualified candidates should have high attention to details to meet established deadlines. This is an off-site subcontractor position requiring 2+ years of professional copy-editing experience.

As an English Language Copy Editor, you will be expected to correct a range of potential issues with the manuscripts assigned to you. Your responsibilities include but are not limited to:

• Correcting faulty spelling, grammar, and punctuation.
• Fixing incorrect word usage.
• Ensuring consistency in spelling, hyphenation, numerals, fonts, and capitalization.
• Checking for callouts and captions for figures, tables, and other display elements.
• Enforcing a consistent style and tone in a multi-author manuscript.
• Eliminating wordiness and inappropriate jargon.
• Smoothing transitions between sentences and paragraphs.
• Reorganizing sentence structure to improve readability.
• Implementing additions and deletions to ensure readability and flow.
• Assigning new levels to headings to achieve logical structure.
• Changing passive voice to active voice, if requested.
• Following Publisher House Style, APA 7th edition, MLA, APA, Chicago Style, and more.
• Performing edits using the Microsoft Word™ track change feature, allowing for a fast and simple review and management of edits.

Qualifications:

• An earned MA or PhD in English, Communications, Mass Media, or related areas.
• Strong proofreading skills and knowledge of grammar, spelling, and punctuation.
• Proficiency in writing, communication, and research skills.
• Working knowledge of MS Office (specifically, the track change function).
• Knowledge of APA style is required. MLA, Chicago, Turabian, as well as AMA are all desired.
• Passing our expert English language copy editing test.

We are seeking experienced Scientific & Scholarly Evaluators who are experts in their field. Qualified candidates should have earned a doctorate degree and have extensive knowledge in one or more of the subject areas listed below. High attention to details and the ability to meet established deadlines is imperative. This is an off-site subcontractor position and a great way to stay informed about the new, leading research in your field!

As a Scientific & Scholarly Evaluator, you will be expected to read through the scholarly manuscript assigned to you and complete an evaluation form which requests your assessment and commentary in the following areas:

• Originality and Significance of the Contribution
  • Does the manuscript clearly explain its mission and coverage?

• Interest to the Research Community and/or Practitioners
  • How useful is the material to the field?

• Coverage of Existing Literature
  • Does the literature review contain relevant information in support of the manuscript?

• Satisfactoriness of the Methodology, Analysis, and Comprehension
  • Does the manuscript contain a detailed explanation of research methods and procedures?

• Clear, Concise, and Jargon-Free Writing
  • Does the manuscript clearly state the issues being addressed?

• Organizational structure
  • Is the manuscript clearly organized in a logical fashion? Are the author’s conclusions supported by the research?

• Major Weaknesses
  • A list of some of the major weaknesses of the manuscript.

• Major Strengths
  • A list of some of the major strengths of the manuscript.

• Recommendations
  • A list of suggestions for the author to consider for improving the manuscript.
